Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has announced a major route revamp and feeder service expansion under its new CMD, Mahesh Awhad. The plan includes rationalizing bus routes, reducing overlaps, and adding nearly 2,500 new buses by April–May 2026 to strengthen connectivity with Pune Metro.
Following the leadership change in March 2026, PMPML is focusing on improving efficiency and commuter convenience. The new strategy emphasizes feeder services to metro stations, shorter waiting times, and better coverage across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and the PMRDA region.
Route Rationalisation
PMPML will redesign its bus network to eliminate overlapping routes and improve direct connectivity. The revamp aims to make buses effective feeders to metro stations, ensuring seamless integration between bus and metro travel.
Fleet Expansion
The transport body plans to induct 2,500 new buses by April–May 2026. This expansion will reduce waiting times to 8–10 minutes and add at least 100 new routes, covering underserved areas and improving accessibility.
Commuter Benefits
The reforms are expected to ease congestion, reduce reliance on private vehicles, and provide faster, more reliable public transport options. Analysts believe the integration of bus and metro services will transform Pune’s urban mobility landscape.
