Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Noida International Airport (Jewar Airport) on March 28, 2026, marking a transformative step for Uttar Pradesh's aviation infrastructure. This greenfield airport in Gautam Buddha Nagar promises to alleviate Delhi-NCR's air traffic congestion, boosting connectivity and economic growth.
In a significant boost to India's aviation sector, PM Modi is set to inaugurate Asia's largest greenfield airport today. The event underscores the government's push for world-class infrastructure to support rising air travel demand.
Noida International Airport, also known as Jewar Airport, represents a game-changer for the National Capital Region (NCR). Located just 70 km from Delhi, it aims to handle over 12 million passengers annually in its first phase, with potential expansion to 70 million by 2047.
Development Journey
Construction began in 2021 under the Uttar Pradesh government in partnership with Zurich Airport International. Spanning 1,334 hectares, the airport features four runways, modern terminals, and sustainable design elements like solar power integration. Despite delays from environmental clearances and the COVID-19 pandemic, Phase 1 is now complete, with commercial operations slated to start by April 2026.
Strategic Importance
Positioned near the upcoming Jewar International Airport City, it will drive logistics, manufacturing, and tourism in western Uttar Pradesh. Enhanced connectivity to Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport will reduce flight delays and support India's goal of becoming a global aviation hub. Experts predict it will generate 35,000 jobs and contribute $11 billion to the regional economy over two decades.
