Gujarat is positioning itself as a serious sporting destination with ambitious targets of hosting the 2036 Olympics. The state government is constructing world-class sports infrastructure, including the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave in Ahmedabad. Construction of this ₹4,000 crore complex will start in 2025 and finish by 2028. The enclave will have permanent establishments such as the Narendra Modi stadium, a multi-purpose indoor arena, and an aquatics centre. Gujarat also bid to stage a number of international events in the coming years, such as the Asian Weightlifting Championship of 2026 and the 2028 U20 World Athletics Championship. To manage Olympic infrastructure development, a special purpose vehicle, Golympic, has been formed by the state.
