Boosting Connectivity: Assam Signs MoU for Airport Expansion

In a landmark step toward enhancing air connectivity, the Assam government has partnered with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to explore the feasibility of five new greenfield airports. The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, underscoring the state’s commitment to infrastructure growth.

• Proposed Locations: Manas National Park, Umrangshu, Majuli, Diphu, and Charaideo.  
• Strategic Importance: The Manas airport is expected to serve both tourism and security needs near sensitive border areas.  
• Current Infrastructure: Assam already operates seven airports, including Guwahati, Jorhat, Tezpur, Dibrugarh, Silchar, Lakhimpur, and Rupsi.  
• Regional Development: New airports will strengthen connectivity, boost trade, and promote eco-tourism.
