Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced the creation of the Delhi Institute for Transformative Initiatives (DITI), a NITI Aayog-like panel dedicated to city-centric policies. The body will focus on urban planning, pollution control, infrastructure, and social welfare, ensuring Delhi’s governance model is tailored to its unique challenges.
On March 24, 2026, while presenting the ₹1,03,700 crore Delhi Budget, CM Rekha Gupta revealed plans for DITI. The panel will act as a think tank for Delhi, similar to NITI Aayog at the national level, but with sharper focus on local governance and city-specific reforms.
Objectives Of DITI
• Develop long-term city-centric policies for infrastructure, health, education, and environment
• Provide data-driven recommendations for tackling pollution and urban congestion
• Act as a policy advisory body to the Delhi government
• Ensure coordination between departments for faster implementation of reforms
Key Focus Areas
• Pollution control – stricter monitoring and sustainable urban practices
• Infrastructure development – roads, housing, and smart city projects
• Healthcare and education – improved facilities and digital integration
• Green initiatives – expansion of Delhi’s “Green Budget” allocations (₹22,236 crore reserved)
• Social welfare – targeted schemes for marginalized communities
Significance
DITI is expected to strengthen Delhi’s governance by creating a localized policy framework. Unlike national-level planning, this panel will address Delhi-specific challenges such as air pollution, rapid urbanization, and public transport needs. It also reflects the government’s vision of “Developed Delhi, Green Delhi.”
