During the ThinkEdu 2026 Conclave held at ITC Grand Chola, Chennai, Shashi Shekhar Vempati highlighted the need for India to build homegrown AI models tailored to its unique context. Speaking at the session “AI for India Creating Our Own Models”, he noted that most global AI platforms are trained on Western-centric data, which may not fully capture India’s diversity.
Vempati stressed that indigenous AI development would empower India to safeguard its digital sovereignty, foster innovation, and ensure inclusivity across languages and socio-economic segments.
