At the Global Center on Adaptation's (GCA) inaugural Ambassadors' Forum in Rotterdam, fifty governments reaffirmed their commitment to accelerate economic resilience through climate adaptation. The high-level forum emphasized the urgent need to scale adaptation and mobilize public and private finance to future-proof economies as climate risk mounts.
Leaders emphasized adaptation as a progress accelerator for sustainable growth, innovation, and job creation, and not just a reactive measure. New investment platforms and partnerships were also launched at the forum, including a $1 billion private sector commitment to climate resilience in Africa, which will mobilize $5 billion over the course of the next year.
GCA CEO Professor Patrick Verkooijen insisted that adaptation should be considered an economic opportunity, and he invited countries to be ambitious and to act together. The summit represents a vital move towards uniting global action in favor of a resilient, climate-smart future.
