Mumbai’s beloved Van Rani Toy Train has officially resumed operations after nearly five years, bringing back one of the city’s most nostalgic attractions. Located inside Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), the revamped train now features modern battery-operated coaches, panoramic views, and eco-friendly upgrades, making it a must-visit for families and tourists.
A Heritage Attraction Revived
First launched in 1970, the Van Rani Toy Train has been a favorite among children and visitors for decades. The 2.7 km ride winds through the Krishnagiri Upvan area, offering glimpses of local biodiversity, a mini zoo, and scenic landscapes. Services were suspended in 2021 after Cyclone Tauktae damaged tracks, but redevelopment costing around INR 45 crores has restored the attraction to its former glory.
Modern Features And Eco-Tourism
The new Van Rani Toy Train is battery-operated, ensuring reduced emissions and quieter rides. With glass-roof coaches and artificial tunnels, the experience blends nostalgia with modern thrills. Union Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated the train on March 14, 2026, dedicating it to the public as part of SGNP’s eco-tourism initiatives.
Visitor Experience
The train ride now spans 5.5 sq km of Krishnagiri Upvan, offering panoramic views of lush greenery and wildlife. Families can enjoy a safe, eco-friendly journey while exploring SGNP’s attractions, including nature trails and the mini zoo. The relaunch has already sparked excitement among locals and tourists alike.
