Pune is poised for a massive infrastructure upgrade with highway projects worth Rs 45,000 crore announced by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. The plan includes India’s longest flyover, elevated corridors, and green highways aimed at easing congestion, reducing pollution, and boosting Western Maharashtra’s economic growth.
India’s Longest Flyover
A 31 km elevated flyover on the Pune–Nagar highway will be India’s longest, connecting Pune to Shirur. This landmark project is expected to drastically cut travel time and ease bottlenecks on one of the busiest routes.
Mega Projects For Urban Mobility
Six major projects have been unveiled, including elevated corridors on Pune–Solapur and Pune–Shirur routes, a Rs 15,000 crore green highway, and integrated designs combining roads, flyovers, and metro layers. Together, they form part of a Rs 1.1 lakh crore infrastructure push for Western Maharashtra.
Economic And Environmental Impact
Officials highlight that these projects will not only improve connectivity but also reduce vehicular emissions by minimizing traffic jams. The Centre has urged state support in land acquisition and tax exemptions to accelerate implementation.
