Infosys Secures £1.2 Billion NHS Contract to Modernize Workforce Management Across England and Wales
In a landmark deal, Infosys has been selected by the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) to design, deliver, and manage a new workforce management solution for the National Health Service (NHS) in England and Wales. The £1.2 billion contract spans 15 years and represents one of the largest digital transformation initiatives in the UK public sector.
Key Highlights:
Contract Scope & Value: Infosys will lead the development and implementation of the Future NHS Workforce Solution, a comprehensive platform that will manage the entire employment lifecycle of NHS staff—from recruitment and onboarding to payroll, career development, and retirement.
Scale of Impact: The solution will serve over 1.9 million NHS employees, accounting for nearly 5% of the UK workforce. It will process more than £55 billion in annual payroll, replacing the legacy Electronic Staff Record (ESR) system.
User-Centric Design: NHSBSA emphasized that the new platform will be co-designed with input from NHS staff. Over 15,000 stakeholders have already contributed feedback to ensure the system meets real-world needs across clinical and administrative roles.
Technology & Innovation: Infosys will leverage its global expertise in cloud, AI, and digital platforms to deliver a scalable, secure, and intuitive solution. The system aims to improve workforce planning, reduce administrative burden, and enhance employee experience.
Strategic Significance: This contract reinforces Infosys’s position as a trusted digital transformation partner for global public sector clients. It also aligns with the UK government’s broader push toward modernizing public services through technology.
Leadership Commentary: NHSBSA officials highlighted the partnership as a “transformational step” in supporting NHS staff and improving operational efficiency. Infosys executives reaffirmed their commitment to delivering a resilient and future-ready platform.
This long-term engagement marks a significant milestone in Infosys’s UK operations and underscores the growing role of Indian IT firms in delivering mission-critical services for global institutions.
