As May 2025 moves ahead, some national and regional bank holidays will make for an extended weekend for most, with key observances such as Buddha Purnima and Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti falling this week. Key Bank Holidays This Week

May 9 (Friday): Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti

Kolkata and all West Bengal banks will be closed to commemorate the birthday of Nobel winner Rabindranath Tagore.

May 10 (Saturday): Second Saturday

All banks throughout India will be shut as per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) requirement for the second Saturday of each month.

May 11 (Sunday): Regular Weekly Closure

All banks all over the country will be closed on their usual schedule.

May 12 (Monday): Buddha Purnima

Banks will be closed in a few states and cities like New Delhi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Bhopal, Nagpur, Raipur, Ranchi, Aizawl, Agartala, Belapur, Dehradun, Itanagar, Jammu, Kanpur, Shimla, and Srinagar on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.

With Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti, the Second Saturday, Sunday, and Buddha Purnima coming back-to-back, citizens in most states-particularly West Bengal and those celebrating Buddha Purnima-can look forward to a bank holiday long weekend. This may affect branch banking services, so customers are recommended to schedule cash withdrawals, cheque deposits, and other critical transactions in advance.

Digital Banking Is Not Affected

While the physical branches may close, the major banks' online services-among them ATM withdrawal, card facilities, NEFT/RTGS fund transfers, and internet/mobile banking-will be operational through the holiday period.

May 16 (Friday): Sikkim State Day - Sikkim bank holiday.

May 24 (Saturday): Fourth Saturday - All-India holiday.

May 26 (Monday): Birthday of Kazi Nazrul Islam - Tripura bank holiday.

May 29 (Thursday): Maharana Pratap Jayanti - Himachal Pradesh bank holiday.
