Bharat's Largest Solar Cell Manufacturing Gigafactory Inaugurated by Waaree Energies in Chikhli, Gujarat
In a major milestone for India's renewable energy industry, Waaree Energies Ltd. has commissioned India's largest solar cell manufacturing gigafactory in Chikhli, Gujarat. The factory has a capacity of 5.4 gigawatts (GW) and covers an area of 150 acres, with a built-up space of 101 acres. It is designed with high-efficiency solar cell technology, supporting India's overall decarbonization strategy and paving the way for a cleaner, greener energy future.
The plant's inauguration ceremony was graced by high-profile dignitaries such as Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, and several other top government officials. The plant will have more than 9,500 direct employment opportunities and approximately 30,000 indirect job opportunities, which will strongly boost the local economy.
Waaree Energies' indigenous manufacturing commitment is in line with the national vision of making India a global clean energy technology hub. Waaree Energies' Chairman and Managing Director, Hitesh Doshi, underlined that this facility is India's vision for technological leadership, energy self-reliance, and global leadership in renewable energy.
This is a reflection of India's rising strength in the international renewable energy market and a true embodiment of the Atmanirbhar Bharat spirit. It will be instrumental in meeting India's ambitious goal of 500 GW of renewable capacity by 2030.
