The two-day visit is aimed at deepening bilateral ties across trade, technology, climate, and strategic cooperation under the India–UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Diplomatic Engagement Highlights
- Starmer was welcomed at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport by Maharashtra Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis
- He is accompanied by a high-level delegation of over 100 members, including UK ministers, business leaders, and cultural representatives
- On October 9, Starmer will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai, to review progress under the ‘Vision 2035’ roadmap
- The roadmap outlines a 10-year plan for collaboration in trade, investment, innovation, defence, climate, education, and people-to-people ties
- A central focus will be the India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), signed in July 2025, which aims to double bilateral trade to USD 112 billion by 2030
- The leaders will also exchange views on regional and global issues, including Indo-Pacific security, climate finance, and digital governance
Fintech And Innovation Focus
- Both Prime Ministers will deliver keynote addresses at the 6th Global Fintech Fest at Jio World Centre, Mumbai
- The event, themed “Empowering Finance for a Better World,” will host over 100,000 participants from 75+ countries
- Starmer’s delegation includes fintech innovators and regulators from the UK, including representatives from the Bank of England and the Financial Conduct Authority
- The UK aims to showcase its AI-driven financial solutions and explore cross-border fintech partnerships with Indian startups
Trade Mission Highlights
- The UK’s largest-ever trade mission to India includes Scotch Whisky Association members, exploring expanded exports under CETA
- The deal is expected to reduce tariffs on whisky, shortbread, and other iconic British products
- UK ministers including Business Secretary Peter Kyle and Investment Minister Lord Jason Stockwood are part of the delegation
- The visit builds on momentum from PM Modi’s UK visit in July 2025, where the CETA was finalized
