Shifting Gears: Nissan's 10-Model Blitz to Reclaim the American Road
In a daring attempt to resuscitate its presence in the North American market, Nissan announced plans to introduce more than 10 new and refreshed models by 2027. The move, announced yesterday, will serve to strengthen the automaker's competitiveness and profitability in one of its most significant markets.

Key highlights of Nissan's turnaround strategy are:
1) All-New Nissan LEAF: The new third-generation LEAF will be redesigned as a contemporary, family-focused crossover, on the same platform as the Ariya SUV. It will be more aerodynamic, have a more advanced EV architecture, and for the first time, a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port to access Tesla's Supercharger network.
2) Hybrid and EV Expansion: Nissan is introducing its e-POWER hybrid system and plug-in hybrids to the North American market, with a plug-in hybrid variant of its top-selling Rogue SUV as the first.
3) Next-Generation Sentra and New Pathfinder: Late in the year, a new generation of the Sentra compact vehicle and an updated Pathfinder SUV will enter the market.
4) Infiniti Updates: The luxury division will introduce a new three-row QX60 SUV with a face-lifted look and a new SPORT package on the QX80. There's also an all-new QX65 luxury crossover in the pipeline.
5) Future EV Production: Nissan plans to start producing a new electric SUV in fiscal year 2027 at its Canton, Mississippi plant and a luxury Infiniti EV SUV in 2028.

This broad-based product assault arrives at a pivotal moment for Nissan, as the automaker seeks to move past recent setbacks, such as the collapse of a merger deal with Honda and a shake-up in leadership, behind it. The company's new CEO, Ivan Espinosa, who starts on April 1, underscored the significance of the new products in driving Nissan's turnaround and expansion in North America.

With this ambitious plan, Nissan is looking to appeal to varying customer tastes with a variety of powertrains, from conventional internal combustion units to hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and battery-electric. The automaker is looking to this initiative not only to deliver new customers, but also to solidify its reputation for innovation and sustainability in the fast-changing automotive environment.
