Lignite to the Rescue: GMDC Fuels Surat's Textile Dreams This Monsoon!
The Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) in a bold decision to serve Surat's textile industry declared to boost production of lignite in the next monsoon. This is for providing a guaranteed fuel supply for the around 400 textile units based in the city, which experience shortages generally in the months of rain.
- GMDC will provide pre-mined lignite in June, July, and August to keep prices stable and avoid seasonal increases.
- The cost of lignite can reach as high as Rs 12,000 from Rs 8,000 per metric tonne during the monsoon season; GMDC's measures are likely to curb this.
- 3.21 lakh tonnes of lignite has been mined at the Tadkeshwar mine before the season.
- Efforts have been enhanced on transportation routes to speed up delivery and decrease waiting time for trucks.
This initiative is expected to support Surat's textile processing units substantially.
