Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron Strengthens Maritime Bonds In Indonesia

The Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron (1TS) made a three-day port call at Belawan, Indonesia, from January 20–23, 2026. The visit included professional exchanges, cultural programs, and joint training activities with the Indonesian Navy, reinforcing India’s vision of MAHASAGAR and deepening bilateral maritime cooperation under the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium framework.

The Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron, comprising INS Tir, INS Shardul, INS Sujata, and ICGS Sarathi, arrived at Belawan, Indonesia, as part of its Southeast Asia deployment. The squadron was warmly welcomed with a ceremonial reception featuring traditional performances, symbolizing the strong cultural and diplomatic ties between the two nations.  

During the port call, Indian and Indonesian naval personnel engaged in a wide range of activities designed to enhance interoperability and strengthen maritime bonds. Senior officers from both navies exchanged views on shared security interests, while trainees participated in joint exercises, cultural exchanges, and sports meets.
