From Sidings To Standstill: Bharat Coking Coal’s ABOCP Mine Hit Hard
Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has reported that mining and transportation activities at ABOCP Mine were forcibly halted by local groups. The stoppage began around 3:00 PM on April 2 and continues, affecting coal supply from the Block-II area.
Operational Disruption
The company highlighted that local mazdoors, previously engaged in shale-picking work, have been demanding full-time wages despite reduced departmental production and outsourcing changes that rendered their roles less relevant. This has led to repeated unrest, culminating in the current stoppage.
Company Response
BCCL has lodged an FIR at Baghmara Police Station, informed senior authorities, and escalated the matter to law enforcement including the SSP, Dhanbad, and DIG (CISF). The issue has also been reported to the company’s HR leadership for further action.
