Under the revised rules, SD cards used in polling booth cameras cannot be removed immediately after voting ends. The SD cards can only be removed at designated Data Collection and Receiving Centres in the presence of the Assistant Returning Officer.

Chain Of Custody And Security

The EC stressed maintaining a clear chain of custody for all video material. No member of the polling party or Booth Level Officer can leave the polling station until camera equipment is fully dismounted. This ensures that all footage is preserved securely and systematically.

High Voter Turnout

West Bengal recorded 92.72% voter turnout in Phase 1, the highest since independence. The EC noted that such strong participation, combined with the politically sensitive nature of the election, makes strict monitoring of surveillance data critical for credibility.

Future Outlook

A trial run of webcasting for Phase 2 will begin ahead of April 29 polling. Counting of votes is scheduled for May 4, with the EC directing officials to strictly follow the new protocols until the process concludes.
