Building the Future: Maharashtra's Plan for Iconic Structures in Mumbai

The Maharashtra government is going to give a new look to Mumbai's skyline by encouraging the development of iconic buildings. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde declared a new policy to maintain the city's architectural heritage while promoting tourism. He stressed that the iconic British-era buildings have contributed to the city's distinct identity and that the new developments must reflect this heritage.

To enable this vision, the government is set to modify current Development Control and Promotion Regulations (DCPR) under Section 37(1) of the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act. The modification will relax constraints in building architecture, enabling more unique buildings that will improve the cityscape and make Mumbai a go-to destination for global tourists. The move is aimed at establishing Mumbai as a top tourist destination and a hub for architecture.
