Bridging Borders— Japan Eyes Deeper Economic Footprint in India
Japan is ready to widen its economic influence in India with huge investments proposed in the country in accordance with Japan-India Vision 2025. Eagerly accepting the pledge of high-quality and low-cost production and outreach to global markets in Africa, in particular, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a reception of a Japanese business delegation on 5 March met with them.
Japan has committed ¥5 trillion (around $32 billion) of investments in the next five years, with a focus on industries such as IT, electronics, and green technologies. Projects such as the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor and Japanese Industrial Townships are also being accelerated to enhance industrial cooperation.
With Japanese businesses foraying into new sectors such as semiconductors and green technology, this partnership is likely to give a fillip to India's manufacturing sector and foster innovation. Skill development and people-to-people exchanges are also being prioritized by both nations to further strengthen relations.
