A Fresh Look at Clean Energy Conversations

India Energy Storage Week 2025 kicked off in New Delhi, with Harsh Malhotra, Minister of State for Road, Transport & Highways and Corporate Affairs, setting the stage for a week focused on the country’s clean energy ambitions. The event brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and innovators to talk about what’s next for India’s energy and mobility landscape.

What Stood Out

Malhotra spoke about the government’s push for electric vehicles, highlighting programs like PM E-Drive and FAME-II. These efforts are helping build a stronger EV manufacturing base in India.
He pointed out that India’s economic growth and the shift to electric transport go hand in hand. The move to EVs isn’t just about climate goals; it’s also about making the economy more resilient and less dependent on imported fuels.
The government is making it easier for people to switch to electric vehicles, with policies like EV retrofitting rules and toll tax exemptions.
Multi-Modal Logistics Parks are in the works, aiming to connect road, rail, and warehousing with green energy and EV-friendly facilities. This should help cut logistics costs and reduce emissions.

Innovation and Collaboration

The event featured more than 200 global energy leaders and over 300 product showcases, with participants from more than 50 countries. Germany and Australia had their own pavilions.
New battery technologies were on display, including lithium-ion, sodium-ion, and lithium-sulfur options. There was also a focus on battery recycling and reuse.
Malhotra encouraged industry players to invest in research, support local manufacturing, and look for ways to make these technologies work for India’s climate and needs.

India’s Clean Energy Goals

The government is sticking to its target of 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030 and Net Zero emissions by 2070.
The conference covered topics like green hydrogen, stationary energy storage, microgrids, and women’s leadership in the energy sector.
The event also included the IESA Industry Excellence Awards and a Women in Energy Forum, recognizing innovation and diversity.

India Energy Storage Week 2025 made it clear that the country is serious about becoming a leader in clean mobility and energy storage. The conversations and new technologies on display suggest that India is moving steadily toward a future where clean energy and sustainable transport are the norm.
