President Donald Trump announced he will personally pay for and install two nearly 100-foot-tall flagpoles, one on each the north and south lawns of the White House, to wave giant American flags. During a walk along the North Lawn, Trump told reporters the "top of the line" poles are "something the White House has needed for 200 years" and anticipates them arriving in a week. The White House currently has its flag flying on a rooftop flagpole, but Trump's attempt is the first addition of freestanding flagpoles to the complex. The attempt is part of a broader set of Trump-directed design enhancements to the White House, including fresh paintings and gold-tinged trimmings. Trump explained the project will be "paid for by Trump" and will be intended to put the flags front and center on both sides of the presidential house.
