The Tripura government is rolling out a new measure to ensure transparency and efficiency in its healthcare sector by linking the salaries of doctors and medical staff at Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital to biometric attendance records. Starting in April, salaries will be distributed based on attendance logs, with payments set to be issued in May.

Health Secretary Kiran Gitte confirmed that biometric attendance has been made mandatory for all staff members, including doctors, to streamline salary disbursement and improve accountability. The system will track in-and-out timings, ensuring that medical professionals are physically present during their designated shifts.

In addition to the attendance-linked salary initiative, the state government has proposed a Rs 56 crore allocation to enhance medical infrastructure at the hospital. Plans include setting up a dedicated stroke ward and a catheterization laboratory, with Rs 13 crore already sanctioned for the latter.

The move comes as Tripura aims to modernize its healthcare administration, ensuring that resources are optimally utilized while maintaining high standards of patient care.
