India is poised on the threshold of a historic space achievement as Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, a veteran Indian Air Force pilot and Gaganyaan astronaut-designate, will be flying to the International Space Station (ISS) in May. Shukla will be the first Indian to live and work on the ISS, almost 40 years after Rakesh Sharma's iconic 1984 mission.

Key Highlights:
  • Shukla will be pilot on Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4), a privately scheduled NASA-qualified flight arranged by Axiom Space, in addition to veteran astronaut Peggy Whitson and Polish and Hungarian crew.
  • The mission will be carried out over a period of 14 days aboard a SpaceX Dragon capsule, with Shukla performing scientific research and education in microgravity.
  • Shukla's quest, following eight months of rigorous NASA and Axiom Space training, is India's maiden attempt at an international commercial spaceflight.
  • The mission is a crucial milestone for India's ambitious Gaganyaan human spaceflight program, with ISRO being integral to preparations.
Prepare for a new era in the Indian cosmic saga as Shukla takes the tricolor to new shores!
