Mustang, the trans-Himalayan district of Nepal, has witnessed a remarkable increase in tourist arrivals, with numbers rising by nearly 50% in 2081 BS compared to the previous year. According to the Jomsom Office of the Annapurna Conservation Area Project, the district welcomed 144,745 foreign tourists between April 13, 2024, and April 13, 2025, a significant jump from 96,645 visitors in 2080 BS.

The surge in tourism is largely attributed to improved road accessibility, particularly the completion of the Beni-Jomsom-Korola highway, which has made travel to Mustang more convenient. The district has also seen a rise in visitors from SAARC nations, with an increase of 53.71% in arrivals from neighboring countries. Among SAARC tourists, 80% were from India, many of whom traveled to Mustang to visit the revered Muktinath temple.

Mustang continues to attract adventure seekers and cultural enthusiasts, with its unique landscape, ancient monasteries, and trekking routes drawing visitors from 72 countries. The region’s growing popularity highlights its potential as a key tourism destination in Nepal, further boosted by infrastructure development and promotional efforts.
