Rekha's less well-known sister, Radha, was once on the cusp of Bollywood stardom but chose a quieter life. A model and actor in Tamil films, Radha had been offered the lead in Raj Kapoor's Bobby (1973) opposite Rishi Kapoor but declined, letting debutant Dimple Kapadia become an overnight sensation.
Radha, one of Gemini Ganesan's six sisters, was a model by heart and chose modeling over acting and left the profession in 1981 to marry childhood friend Usman Saeed, son of South Indian director S.M. Abbas. The couple moved to the U.S., where they have two sons. While Rekha became a screen icon, Radha's success is attributed to a missed cinematic milestone that changed Bollywood history.
