The Telangana government has launched a revolutionary initiative to provide high-quality, nutritious snacks to children in welfare schools, ensuring their health and well-being. The project, spearheaded by A Sharat (IAS), Secretary for Tribal Welfare, introduces millet-based chikkis and cookies made with pure Girijan honey sourced from forest hills.
Key Highlights:
✅ Health-Focused Snacks: Unlike traditional chikkis and cookies with high sucrose content, these millet-based alternatives promote gut health and nutrition.
✅ Empowering Tribal Communities: The initiative supports tribal honey collectors, ensuring economic upliftment and sustainable livelihoods.
✅ Government Backing: The project is endorsed by Deputy CM M. Bhatti Vikram, Minister Seethakka, and Chairman Kotnak Thirupathi, reinforcing its importance for child welfare.
✅ Nutrihub Collaboration: Nutrihub – ICAR-IIMR, led by Dr. B Dayakar Rao, has developed Millet Nutri Chikki & Honey Millet Cookies, combining quality millets with pure honey.
✅ Launch Event: The new Giri product was unveiled at DSS Bhavan on April 17, marking a major step in promoting tribal products for a greater social cause.
This initiative not only ensures better nutrition for children but also strengthens tribal communities, making it a win-win for health and sustainability.
