The Mumbai Urban Transport Project Phase 4 (MUTP-4) is set to be the catalyst for ‘Third Mumbai’-a vast, 323 sq km new city planned near the Navi Mumbai airport and Atal Setu. Spearheaded by the state government and Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC), MUTP-4 will focus on building advanced, access-controlled rail corridors to seamlessly connect the Karnala-Sai-Chirner (KSC) New Town with Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.
Rail-Driven Growth: New suburban rail lines, designed with metro-style stations and smart ticketing, will anchor the development, supporting rapid residential and commercial expansion.
Master Planning: A consultant will soon be appointed to design the blueprint in coordination with CIDCO, leveraging their metro expertise. The plan will emphasize transit-oriented development and greenfield infrastructure.
Smart, Sustainable City: ‘Third Mumbai’ will feature eco-friendly zones, tech parks, logistics hubs, and affordable housing, powered by green mobility and AI-based urban management.
Economic Impact: Backed by ₹4.07 lakh crore in MoUs and robust credit lines, the project aims to create a future-ready economic hub, easing Mumbai’s congestion and driving Maharashtra’s growth.
MUTP-4’s ambitious rail expansion is poised to unlock ‘Third Mumbai’s’ potential, setting a new benchmark for sustainable, tech-driven urbanization in India.
