Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) has announced strong support from the Indian community towards Barisan Nasional (BN) in the recent Mahkota by-election. MIC Deputy President M. Saravanan said that some 80% of Indian voters, totaling close to 2,600 votes, have expressed their support for BN in the constituency. This statement comes amidst MIC's sustained efforts to win over Indian voters through focused outreach, community-based programs, and direct conversations with them to respond to their issues and well-being.
Saravanan stressed that this strong backing is a vote of confidence given by the Indian community to the initiatives of BN and the dedication of the MIC to ensuring its needs are paramount in the coalition agenda. The party's ploy is to ride on the momentum to sweep Mahkota with a definitive win, noting the pivotal status of Indian votes in tightly fought seats.
The larger picture indicates that Indian votes are still crucial in Malaysia's changing political scenario. Although the MIC has been struggling and with changing allegiances within BN, the party still gets its base mobilized, aware that Indian voters can be decisive in election results, particularly in constituencies where their strength is considerable.
