Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Ltd (SDHI), India's leading capacity player in shipbuilding and heavy fabrication, has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Wheel & Time Shipping Transport Logistics to launch India's first integrated Fabrication, Assembly, Storage, and Transportation (F.A.S.T) commercial logistics platform at its Pipavav shipyard in Gujarat.
The F.A.S.T. model is intended to offer a turnkey solution to heavy engineering projects, with SDHI's waterfront infrastructure and state-of-the-art fabrication and Wheel & Time's whole heavy logistics capabilities. The partnership is intended to serve high-value, time-critical industries such as ports, marine infrastructure, petrochemicals, offshore EPC, oil & gas, and heavy engineering.
Vivek Merchant, SDHI Director, said, "Newbuilds, ship repair, and heavy fabrication are at the centre of SDHI's expansion strategy. With robust shipbuilding and repair facilities, this association with Wheel & Time Shipping Transport Logistics complements our heavy engineering operations. We can provide customers with a more integrated, end-to-end solution in combination. The F.A.S.T. logistics ecosystem enables EPC contractors and heavy industry participants to focus on innovation and last-mile delivery while we manage the intricacies from fabrication to transportation."
Gautamraj Sharma, Wheel & Time Shipping Transport Logistics Managing Director, further added, "The F.A.S.T. logistics system will allow clients to de-risk projects and bring certainty to timelines, execution, and delivery."
The SDHI shipyard, 600 acres in size with 1.2 km of waterfront development, boasts India's largest dry dock and state-of-the-art CNC and robotic equipment and hydraulic presses with up to 1,600 tonnes of lifting capacity. Wheel & Time will boast an entire inventory of heavy-lift equipment like SPMTs, hydraulic trailers, and marine transport vessels to facilitate smooth transport of over-size cargo anywhere in the world. This partnership marks a significant step forward for Indian engineering and logistics sectors, with the potential to shorten project timelines, decrease handoffs, and lower overall project risk.
