Soha Ali Khan Reflects on Satyajit Ray’s Masterpiece Devi

In an exclusive interview with NDTV, actress Soha Ali Khan shared her admiration for her mother Sharmila Tagore’s iconic performance in Satyajit Ray’s Bengali film Devi. Soha revealed that Devi holds a special place in her heart for its haunting narrative and impactful themes, which remain relevant even today.  

 

Soha described the film as “disturbing yet profound,” highlighting the unforgettable final scene where the young girl runs into the fields, leaving viewers with a sense of unease and introspection. She praised Ray’s ability to address complex societal issues with subtlety and nuance, creating cinema that resonates across generations.  

 

Reflecting on her mother’s illustrious career, Soha expressed pride in Sharmila Tagore’s versatility and her contributions to path-breaking cinema. She acknowledged that growing up, she wasn’t fully aware of the depth of her mother’s work, but her appreciation grew as she delved into films like Devi and other classics.  

 

Soha also shared a humorous anecdote about her mother’s advice to never marry an actor, citing the emotional volatility of the profession. Despite this, Soha chose to marry actor Kunal Kemmu, proving that love often defies practical wisdom.
