Delhi had a scorching day on April 26 with a high of 42.1 degrees Celsius, the highest in three years, and the warmest April day since 2022, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The last higher April temperature was 43.5°C in 2022.
The city experienced heatwave situation of dry westerly winds and sunny skies accounting for the record. Minimum temperature stood at 20.7°C, 3.1 degrees below the season's average, while the humidity remained between 15% and 35%. A yellow alert was issued by the IMD for the weekend, with the temperatures hovering around 41°C on the weekend during which partly cloudy weather was forecasted on Sunday.
People are advised to be cautious against heat exposure as the heatwave is likely to prevail until April 30 in Northwestern India.
