Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on citizens to embrace the Sachet mobile app, a groundbreaking tool designed to enhance disaster preparedness and safety. Developed by the National Disaster Management Authority, the app provides real-time geo-tagged alerts for natural disasters, including floods, cyclones, landslides, and more.
During his Mann Ki Baat address, Modi emphasized the importance of individual alertness in mitigating disaster impacts. He described Sachet as a vital resource for staying informed and protected, highlighting its ability to deliver updates in 12 regional languages with translation and read-out features.
The app operates on a Common Alerting Protocol-based system, ensuring quick and accurate dissemination of warnings. Users can receive notifications tailored to their current location or subscribe to updates for specific states or districts. In addition to alerts, Sachet offers daily weather updates, forecasts, and a library of resources, including dos and don’ts, helpline numbers, and satellite connectivity features.
Modi also praised India’s humanitarian efforts during the recent Myanmar earthquake, where Operation Brahma provided rescue and relief support. He urged citizens to leverage technological innovations like Sachet to enhance disaster resilience and preparedness.
