Indian women's hockey team began their tour of Australia with a courageous but disappointing 3-5 loss to Australia A in Perth Hockey Stadium on April 26. Australia ran up a 4-0 lead in the first half through Neasa Flynn, Olivia Downes, Ruby Harris, and Tatum Stewart. India mounted a strong fightback in the second half through vice-captain Navneet Kaur, Mahima Tete, and Lalremsiami scoring goals to bridge the gap, but the hosts stood firm to claim the win.
The Indian team wore black armbands throughout the match as a mark of respect to the victims of the recent Pahalgam terror attack, showing solidarity and respect. The team's resilience and attacking spirit despite the loss were appreciated, and a positive tone was set for the rest of the five-match series. The next match is scheduled to be played on April 27.
