Ram Baboo Clinches 35km Race Walk Gold; Women’s Event Result Delayed After Course Confusion

Ram Baboo of Uttar Pradesh won the men's 35km race walk gold at the 12th Indian Open National Race Walking Competition 2025 with a powerful demonstration of disciplined performance. Baboo, who is a former Asian Games bronze medallist and national record holder, continues to add to his illustrious career despite having humble beginnings as a daily wage labourer.

 

The 20km race walking event for women, though, was marred by a big blunder when the athletes walked off the entire course, causing hours of delay and chaos. Organisers cited technical reasons for not releasing the official results, which frustrated athletes and spectators. The event has put a spotlight on event management and the need for stricter control over race walking competitions.

 

Ram Baboo's win is a silver lining, reflecting India's increasing strength in athletics despite organisers trying to sort out the women's event problems.
