PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) has submitted a formal request to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs for the opening of a Regional Director (RD) Office at Chandigarh for easing the regulatory burden of companies doing business in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and the Union Territories. Currently, companies have to rely on the New Delhi office, leading to delays and additional compliance expenses. PHDCCI argues that Chandigarh's vicinity, proximity, and availability of connectivity, and ready legal infrastructure—the High Court and NCLT benches—make it the ideal location for the MCA hub. With startups, MSMEs, and corporate activities burgeoning in the region, a local RD Office would speed up approvals, decentralized decision-making, and improve the ease of doing business, according to the Chamber. PHDCCI also highlights the city's excellent professionals' base and ready MCA infrastructure and demands immediate government intervention for simpler corporate governance.
