Indian Open Relay Competition will create history this Wednesday in Chandigarh by debuting the 4x100m mixed relay event for seniors and juniors. The move by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) is aligned with the worldwide trend after the event was recently included in the schedule of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Over 300 of India's best athletes will participate, with wide coverage from states like Tamil Nadu, Punjab, and Odisha. Other top athletes such as Vithya Ramraj and Srabani Nanda have also been confirmed, making the tournament all the more thrilling and glamorous. Participants are primarily preparing for upcoming events like Asian Championships and the World Relays, and therefore having this event happen is entirely pivotal to being on the international athletics calendar.

The inclusion of the mixed relay is regarded as a forward-thinking move, consistent with the changing dynamics of global track and field competitions. The event will be a demonstration of speed, cohesion and new faces across the country.
