A shock and fear wave ran through Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on Tuesday after terrorists fired indiscriminately at a batch of tourists in the picturesque Baisaran valley. The audacious daytime attack killed at least one and injured seven others, several critically, shattering the region's tenuous peace and prompting a huge security backlash.

Attack Details: Unknown militants ambushed tourists traveling to Baisaran meadows in Pahalgam, opening fire for 3–5 minutes before escaping the area. The region, commonly referred to as "mini-Switzerland," is a top tourist destination, which makes the attack particularly concerning.

Casualties: A tourist was shot dead and seven others injured at least. The victims came from different states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha. One of the survivor women described how the attackers questioned her name and faith before firing shots, her husband having been shot in the head.

Instant Response: Security personnel—the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF—poured into the area, conducting a joint search operation and sealing off the belt. Rescue and medical personnel quickly shifted the injured to Anantnag district hospital.
