Zerodha CEO Nithin Kamath revealed that he would not start the discount broking platform if he were to do it in 2025, describing too much competition and market saturation. To a user on Zerodha's TradingQnA, Kamath responded, "The market is so crowded, and being another one doing the same thing wouldn't work." He added that Zerodha's accomplishment had been achieved by building its product over a span of ten years—an edge hard to replicate now. Instead, Kamath explained a new brokerage would need a differentiated offering, such as charging a premium for superior research, even if that leads to fewer customers but better profits. Kamath's blunt statements indicate how the fintech sector in India has matured to make it challenging for new players to disrupt the market without having a differentiated value proposition.
