In a significant administrative failure, Chembur Law College in Mumbai distributed the incorrect question paper to 47 students during the current University of Mumbai law exams on Saturday. The mistake impacted students from both the three-year and five-year LLB courses, namely those sitting for their sixth and tenth semester exams.

Rather than the paper as per the newly enacted Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (Indian Evidence Act), students were given a question paper from the old Law of Evidence syllabus. Several students, who had studied as per the revised curriculum, were left dismayed and distressed. Early efforts to bring this to the notice of the college administration were reportedly dismissed.

Key Highlights:

The confusion arose as the college handed out the second paper in the set of examinations, rather than the one on that day's schedule.

The wrong paper carried official university stamps, but it was verified to be a college-level mistake.

Answer sheets by students will be marked according to the paper received to avoid punishing them for the college's blunder.

The matter will be placed before the University of Mumbai’s examination board for further review.

The incident has sparked criticism from student groups and advocates, who demand greater accountability from university authorities for repeated administrative lapses.

A senior university official assured that students would not suffer due to the blunder and the college has admitted its mistake.
