Indian equity markets faced a brutal selloff on April 24-25, 2025, eroding ₹8.88 lakh crore in investor wealth as escalating Indo-Pak tensions and global recession fears rattled Dalal Street. The BSE Sensex tumbled 1,195 points intraday on April 25, closing 570 points lower at 79,227, while the Nifty50 plunged 207 points to 24,039. Broader markets bled deeper, with mid- and small-cap indices crashing 3-3.5% as the India VIX fear gauge surged 8.2%.

The selloff followed ceasefire violations along the LoC and the Pahalgam terror attack, compounding existing anxieties over U.S.-China trade wars and FPI outflows (₹13,730 crore in April). Analysts warned of prolonged volatility unless geopolitical risks ease.
