India's Steel Industry To Be Ready For Colossal Expansion: 300 Million Tonnes Capacity by 2030

India is poised to realize a capacity to produce 300 million tonnes (MT) of steel by 2030, powered by policy changes, infrastructure development, and international partnerships. The government is targeting the per capita consumption of steel to 160 kg, further consolidating India as a world steel leader.

Current Production: During FY25 (April–December), crude steel production was 110.99 MT, and finished steel production was 106.86 MT.
PLI Scheme Impact: The PLI scheme for specialty steel has drawn ₹17,000 crore of investments, making India more competitive.
India Steel 2025 Event: A prominent industry conference in Mumbai will open up new opportunities, with global leaders and foreign dignitaries.
