In March 2025, airlines in India saw significant growth, with a total traffic of 1.45 crore (14.54 million) domestic passengers, which is an increase of 8.79% compared to the same month last year, according to data released today by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). In March 2024, airlines in India transported 1.33 crore passengers.

IndiGo was the market leader with 93.1 lakh passengers and 64% market share. The Air India Group, which includes Air India and Air India Express, followed with 38.8 lakh passengers and a market share of 26.7%. Akasa Air and SpiceJet carried 7.2 lakh and 4.8 lakh passengers, respectively, giving them 5% and 3.3% of the market.

IndiGo's on-time performance (OTP) was the best at 88.1%, and Akasa Air followed at 86.9%. The OTP for Air India Group and SpiceJet was 82% and 72.1%, respectively, and these figures are based on four main metro airports: Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai.

The increase in passenger numbers shows that civil aviation in India is recovering and expanding despite the difficulties faced by the industry in the operations.
