Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), India's largest fuel retailer and oil refiner, has announced its operating and financial results for the year ending March 2025, showing resilience in the face of a tough refining backdrop and ongoing emphasis on growth and sustainability.

In the April-March cycle, IOCL's average gross refining margin (GRM) was $4.80 per barrel, a notable moderation of last year's peaks, mainly because of weaker product cracks and reducing discounts on Russian crude. Nevertheless, the company still enjoyed robust operational efficiency with the help of its sophisticated refinery infrastructure and extensive marketing network.

IOCL in the fourth quarter reported a net profit of ₹72.65 billion with revenue from operations at ₹2.18 trillion. Although the profits were hit by weaker refining margins and cut in retail fuel prices, the company's performance for the year was strong backed by diversified business streams and enhanced marketing margins in previous quarters.

The board has announced a final dividend of ₹3 per share as a return to shareholders for their sustained support.

Strategically, IOCL is moving forward with large investments. The price of the Barauni refinery expansion in Bihar has been increased to ₹167.24 billion, indicating the company's focus on increasing capacity and adding petrochemical production for greater value addition. This expansion is a part of IOCL's larger vision to address India's growing energy demand and consolidate its market leadership.

As part of its green energy goals, IOCL's board has also sanctioned further equity investment of ₹10.86 billion in its wholly owned subsidiary, Terra Clean I. The action will hasten the company's shift towards clean and renewable energy, aligning with India's net-zero goals and IOCL's vision to achieve a $1 trillion revenue company by 2047.
