India is to appoint a retired Vice Chief of the Indian Navy as its first Secretary General of the Colombo Security Conclave (CSC) Secretariat, enhancing regional maritime security cooperation within the Indian Ocean. The move aims to heighten the CSC's focus on maritime security, counterterrorism, and cyber security.

Objective: Upgrade the CSC's five pillars of disaster relief and anti-transnational crime.
Expansion: Bangladesh joined in 2024, with Seychelles as an observer and plans to add Oman and Myanmar.
Most recent milestone: Member states signed the CSC Charter and MoU in August 2024, approving the Colombo-based Secretariat.
The CSC, established in 2020 by India, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives, now has Mauritius as a member and is focused on stabilizing the Indian Ocean Region amidst rising geopolitical tensions
