The Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi (IIT Delhi) has partnered with Micron Technology, Inc. to spearhead cutting-edge research in the semiconductor sector. This collaboration aims to bridge the gap between academic innovation and industrial application, focusing on advanced electronic materials and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven modeling.

The partnership will tackle critical challenges in semiconductor manufacturing, with researchers working on AI-powered neural models to predict and prevent fatigue and fractures in copper-based electronic components. These efforts are expected to significantly enhance the reliability and performance of semiconductor devices, a crucial step in meeting the growing global demand for chips.

Professor Preeti Ranjan Panda, Dean of Corporate Relations at IIT Delhi, expressed pride in the collaboration, emphasizing its potential to drive impactful research and innovation. Gurtej S. Sandhu, Vice President at Micron Technology, highlighted the importance of this partnership in developing cutting-edge AI models and crystal plasticity frameworks, reinforcing Micron's commitment to advancing semiconductor technology.

This initiative aligns with India's broader semiconductor ambitions, as the country’s chip demand, currently estimated at $45-50 billion, is projected to more than double by 2030. The collaboration also supports the government’s vision of nurturing a semiconductor-ready workforce, with Nano Centres playing a pivotal role in fostering innovation and developing skilled talent.
