Hyundai Motor India Limited has partnered with Indian Oil Corporation Limited to initiate real-world testing of hydrogen-powered vehicles in India. As part of this collaboration, Hyundai has handed over its flagship hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle, the Nexo SUV, to Indian Oil for a two-year trial period.
The trials aim to evaluate the performance, reliability, and operational efficiency of hydrogen-powered vehicles under Indian road conditions. Covering approximately 40,000 kilometers, the tests will also include a comprehensive Total Cost of Ownership analysis to assess the long-term affordability and environmental benefits of hydrogen mobility.
The Hyundai Nexo, equipped with advanced hydrogen fuel cell technology, offers a driving range of up to 666 kilometers and can be refueled in under five minutes. This initiative aligns with India's National Green Hydrogen Mission and Hyundai's vision of promoting sustainable mobility solutions.
In addition to the trials, Hyundai is collaborating with IIT Madras to establish a Hydrogen Innovation Centre, which will support startups and automotive firms in developing hydrogen-related technologies. This dual approach underscores Hyundai and Indian Oil's commitment to advancing green hydrogen as a transformative energy source for the future.
