The central government has announced a significant measure directed at youths acquiring jobs from their vicinity. Under the new “Job in Your Hometown,” the Labour Ministry will overlay job data on the PM Gati Shakti portal that is integrated with the National Career Service (NCS) system. This provision is for job-seekers and particularly youths that are newly entering the workforce or have limited skills to filter and locate jobs either in their hometown or where they would be willing to work within a radius of 20–40 kilometers.

In addition, a dedicated mobile app will be created in the future to assist youths to complete location-based job searches while staying local. This initiative is already being implemented in Jammu & Kashmir & Gujarat and will expand to the rest of the nation in the near future.

Currently, there are more than 41 lakh employers and one crore job seekers on the NCS portal in 2023-24 and 2.7 crore vacancies alone were published for that year. With geo-tagging identified jobs and firms as well as jobs under EPFO and ESIC, the government seeks economic development through Job Creation Enhancements and innovative accessibility to employment for job seekers.

Officials say this will not only be a complex methodology to develop youth employment but integrating developments including onboarding schemes for youth with disability and other backward classes would promote inclusive developments as well. The Ministry of Labour is working with the Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geoinformatics (BISAG) for the rollout in the subsequent year.

The PM Gati Shakti platform Wall Imaging was launched in early 2021 and is envisaged to be a transformative paradigm toward continuous economic growth, sustainable use of clean resources, and collective effort engaged to benefit the collective as a whole if the ascribed job & entrepreneurial opportunities are created as planned.
