In a stunning IPL 2025 match, Punjab Kings achieved the unthinkable by successfully defending a meager 111 against Kolkata Knight Riders, with this becoming the record lowest total defended in IPL history. Following their one-all defeat at the hands of just 111 runs in 15.3 overs, Punjab's bowlers headed by Yuzvendra Chahal's record-breaking 4/28 and Marco Jansen's 3/17 completely turned the match around. KKR, riding at 62/2, lost their remaining eight wickets for a mere 33 runs, collapsing to 95 in 15.1 overs and yielding Punjab a shocking 16-run win.
The feat is the second-best in IPL history, overtaking Chennai Super Kings' defending 116 against Punjab in 2009. These are the five lowest totals defended in IPL history:
111 – Punjab Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders, Mullanpur, 2025
116/9 – Chennai Super Kings vs Kings XI Punjab, Durban, 2009
118 – Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Mumbai Indians, Mumbai, 2018
119/8 – Kings XI Punjab vs Mumbai Indians, Durban, 2009
119/8 – Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Pune Warriors, Pune, 2013
Punjab's dogged bowling and fielding effort will be talked about as one of the IPL's finest low-scoring robberies.
