Despite the growing dominance of SUVs, hatchbacks continue to maintain a strong presence in India’s automotive market. The fiscal year 2025 saw some of the most popular models retain their positions, with Maruti Suzuki WagonR leading the pack as the best-selling hatchback.
Maruti Suzuki sold 1,98,451 units of the WagonR in FY25, securing its top spot despite a slight year-on-year decline of 1 percent. The Swift followed closely, selling 1,79,641 units, though it recorded an 8 percent drop compared to the previous year. The Baleno, another Maruti Suzuki favorite, saw a sharper decline of 15 percent, with total sales reaching 1,67,161 units.
The Alto, once a dominant force in the entry-level segment, faced a 9 percent dip, selling 1,02,232 units. Tata Tiago, the only non-Maruti model in the top five, recorded a 19 percent decline, with 69,234 units sold. Hyundai’s i10 and i20 secured the sixth and seventh positions, selling 62,415 and 55,513 units, respectively.
